Continuing the 'Solidarity Nation' campaign, Flamengo, in partnership with SOS Favela/Viva Rio, carried out this Wednesday (29) another delivery of food vouchers for players who play in clubs in series B1 and B2 of the RJ State Championship. This time, Mais Querido benefited professional athletes from Barcelona Esporte Clube, located in the Jacarepaguá region, in the West Zone of the city.

In total, 25 players showed up to receive R$100 each. It's worth noting that the initiative originated with Flamengo's professional soccer team, with the idea of ​​helping Rio's lower-income teams facing hardship due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Barcelona EC is currently playing in Série B2 of the Carioca Championship.

"This initiative that Flamengo is taking values ​​athletes from clubs with lower investment. They complain that they are often excluded from social initiatives. Many institutions could have done this, and Flamengo serves as an example. Athletes dream of playing for a big club like Flamengo, but if we don't have the means to support them, that dream ends halfway," said Augusto Vieira, President of Barcelona EC.

In addition to the food vouchers, the club also distributed hand sanitizer (in partnership with LBBio) and presented an autographed club jersey, which Barcelona may auction. In total, the campaign has benefited 273 athletes from clubs in the B1 and B2 divisions of the Campeonato Carioca.
