In another action of the 'Nação Solidária' campaign, carried out this Friday (31), Flamengo, in partnership with SOS Favela/Viva Rio, delivered food voucher cards to athletes who play for Itaboraí Profute, a club from Mesquita, in Baixada Fluminense, which competes in series B2 of the Rio de Janeiro State Championship.

In total, 25 players were on hand to receive R$100 each. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, several lower-funded clubs in Rio are facing difficulties. With this in mind, Flamengo's professional soccer players suggested the campaign to the club's Social Responsibility Department, which promptly found a way to make the effort possible.

"It's really difficult. It's something no one expected; this pandemic has shut down the entire world, not just Brazil. Flamengo is helping us a lot with this food voucher, so we can have food to eat and even buy hygiene products to protect ourselves from Covid-19. We hope this ends soon and everything returns to normal, with fans supporting their clubs," said Lelê, Itaboraí's forward.  

Murilo Lima, President of Itaboraí, also spoke about the current situation and highlighted some improvements the club is making:  

"It's truly a very complicated situation. But during the pandemic, we've been revitalizing our pitch to welcome the players back to training. I believe Itaboraí will be able to resume its activities next month. This support Flamengo is offering is crucial for the smaller clubs in Rio de Janeiro."

In addition to the aid, Mais Querido also donated hand sanitizer (in partnership with LBBio) and an autographed Club jersey, which will be auctioned. It's worth noting that the 'Nação Solidária' campaign continues to accept donations to help even more people in vulnerable situations.
