This Thursday (21), Flamengo, in partnership with SOS Favela/Viva Rio, continued the Nação Solidária campaign and carried out a new distribution of food cards and personal protective masks for informal workers working at Maracanã. Street vendors, impacted by the suspension of games at the stadium due to the new coronavirus pandemic, also received packets of Mendorato peanuts, the club's official sponsor.

On the second day of deliveries, approximately 250 street vendors received R$55 in aid and protective masks made with references to their idol Zico. Workers were served at the stadium from 9 a.m. to 15 p.m.

"This is a very difficult time we're living through, not just for me, but also for many street vendors who work at Maracanã. Many informal workers depend on games at the stadium to support their families. This assistance Flamengo is offering is very valuable and, in a way, helps us buy some things we need at home. I thank the club for offering this assistance," said Fernando Azevedo, a street vendor at Maracanã.

Street vendor supervisor Fábio Lima expressed his gratitude and said the help comes at a good time. "It's complicated because, like it or not, we earned our income from matches. With this pandemic, it's become very difficult. This initiative will help us a lot. Now we just have to hope things can improve," the supervisor stated.

Since April, the 'Nação Solidária' campaign, supported by SOS Favela/Viva Rio, has already benefited more than 2 families in underserved communities in Rio de Janeiro. Now, in its second phase, the initiative seeks to alleviate the situation of informal workers at Maracanã Stadium, who are without income due to the suspension of soccer matches there.
