Last weekend, on December 8th, 9th, and 10th, the Summer State Junior and Junior Championships, held by FARJ (Rio de Janeiro Aquatic Federation), brought together the Flamengo Regatta Club with a sporting competition packed with promising talent. However, the event was not only marked by the competition in the pools, but also by a gesture of solidarity by the Junior athletes who, during the championship's opening parade, brought gifts to children assisted by social institutions.

The event was the result of a Christmas gift collection campaign conceived by the athletes themselves and their families, aiming to bring a little joy and hope to socially vulnerable children. The initiative, initiated by the athletes themselves and their families, received enthusiastic support from coaches and spectators, strengthening the culture of giving and empathy among young athletes. Aware of the positive impact they could have on their surroundings, the young athletes embraced the cause with enthusiasm, transforming the championship into a vibrant and supportive collection point.

"Encouraging this practice, even in childhood, is an excellent opportunity to show our children that small gestures can make a big difference in other people's lives," said Karine Karam, mother of athlete Sofia. "Sport is wonderful in many ways. It teaches persistence, determination, self-improvement, winning and losing, and teamwork... Following this logic, why not work as a team to help others?" added Marielza Carballo, mother of athletes Arthur and Luiza.

With the support of Flamengo's Social Responsibility Department, the collected toys were donated to the Obra do Berço institution, which works with families whose bonds are fragile or broken, facing difficulties in balancing their responsibilities as providers and caregivers. Founded in 1928, Obra do Berço provides assistance and protection to children at social and personal risk, providing them with psychopedagogical, physical, emotional, and social development in a healthy environment, promoting their citizenship and strengthening family bonds.
