Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, was awarded this Monday (14) with the Pedro Ernesto Merit Medal Set, the highest honor granted by the Rio de Janeiro City Council. The honor was presented by councilor Wagner Tavares, in a ceremony held at the Pedro Ernesto Palace.

The award, given to individuals who provide outstanding services to the city, had an even more special meaning for the president of the red-and-black party: Pedro Ernesto, former mayor of Rio and after whom the City Hall Palace is named, was the great-uncle of his mother, Dona Eliane.

"It's a great pleasure to receive this award. I grew up hearing stories about Pedro Ernesto as mayor of Rio de Janeiro, and his legacy is impressive. He served for six years and built seven hospitals. Preventive medicine and education were the pillars of his administration. I feel honored as a citizen of Rio and as president of the "Most Beloved"," said Bap upon receiving the medal.

The ceremony was attended by family members, club directors, and guests. At the end, everyone sang the Flamengo anthem together, in a moment of emotion and collective pride.

"It's a joy to celebrate this connection between past and present, bringing together names that contribute to the greatness of Rio de Janeiro. Luiz Eduardo Baptista brought vision, structure, and professionalism that extend beyond the walls of Gávea. When Flamengo grows stronger, Rio grows stronger too," said Councilman Wagner Tavares.
