While sports competitions remain suspended due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, Flamengo has been scoring one goal after another in the area of solidarity. In early April, the club, in partnership with SOS Favela/Viva Rio, launched the campaign "Solidarity Nation: Flamengo champion on and off the field," aiming to help vulnerable people in underserved communities in Rio de Janeiro. To date, the club has raised approximately R$105 in donations, which have been transformed into food baskets, hand sanitizer, and protective masks. These initiatives have already been carried out in 40 communities in Rio and Greater Rio.

The project, in addition to delivering food, personal hygiene products, and protective equipment, is also distributing food vouchers to street vendors working at Maracanã Stadium. In total, 922 informal workers who registered for the program will receive a R$55 benefit. It's worth noting that the suspension of games at the stadium directly impacted these workers' monthly incomes.

Mais Querido's Social Responsibility Manager, Camila Nascimento, highlighted the importance of this campaign at the current time.

"In the fight against the coronavirus, solidarity has become a powerful weapon against the effects of the pandemic. Food drives have made a difference on the tables of many families who have lost their income, have children at home without school meals, and now depend on support to provide for their livelihoods.

Camila also highlighted the importance of hygiene products. "People are advised to wash their hands thoroughly, but they don't even have running water at home, as we see in many favelas in Rio de Janeiro. On the positive side, the only thing that remains is the unity of everyone. The gratitude of those who receive and the commitment of those who support," emphasized the red-and-black manager.

Seeking to mitigate the impacts caused by social isolation, the 'Nação Solidária' campaign will continue to pursue its main objective: helping those who need it most.
