By - in

Athletes, members and employees actively participated in the fifth edition of the Sangue Rubro-Negro Campaign, held at the club's headquarters in Gávea, this Wednesday, the 13th. Created by Flamengo's Social Responsibility Department, the action, which has been taking place annually since 2020, aimed to raise awareness in society about the importance of donating blood and contribute to stocks in blood centers that supply public hospitals across the country.

The initiative, carried out in partnership with Hemorio, surpassed the previous year's number of volunteers, with 93 volunteers donating blood. Dr. Renata Esteves, a Hemorio hemotherapist responsible for the initiative, spoke about the importance of being a blood donor.

"This partnership between Hemorio and Clube de Regatas do Flamengo is very important because Brazil doesn't yet have a blood donation culture. Therefore, these social movements are crucial. Flamengo is the largest sports club in the country, so Flamengo's support increases the visibility of campaigns like this, increases adherence, and increases public participation. Flamengo has been running the campaign for years, and we always have excellent results here," he said.

Samantha Rezende, a water polo athlete, also donated. "This is my first time donating blood for the campaign, and it's very rewarding. I'm so happy to be able to help. I brought other athletes along to donate as well. It's a quick procedure and doesn't hurt at all."

Blood donation is essential for healthcare facilities to continue treating patients during treatments and surgeries. The "Sangue Rubro-negro" Campaign reinforces the role of sports clubs as agents of social transformation. The campaign took place during SIPAT Fla – Internal Workplace Accident Prevention Week at Flamengo.
