The truth of the facts
By Flamengo Regatta Club - inIn the newspaper O Globo this Sunday, June 28, 2020, columnist Bernardo Mello Franco made completely insulting, legally erroneous and divorced from the reality of the facts comments against Flamengo and its board, demonstrating that he did not investigate them and, much less, qualify them correctly.
The aforementioned columnist wrongly stated that Flamengo was on a crusade against the quarantine, adding that, in his words, "...Flamengo ignored state and city decrees and resumed its routine at Ninho do Urubu. On the day of the clandestine training session, President Rodolfo Landim flew to Brasília and had lunch with Jair Bolsonaro."
It is imperative to record the truth of the facts. Flamengo never violated or failed to comply with the orders issued by municipal and state authorities. On the contrary, it had legal opinions that allowed it to carry out physical therapy and muscle recovery work, as long as there was a minimum distance of 2 meters between athletes and in compliance with health regulations, now called the "golden rules."
In addition to complying with public authorities, Flamengo provided information about these activities to the Public Ministry of Labor and the State of Rio de Janeiro, clarifying, in a transparent manner, that the activities carried out at the CT complied with the legislation, especially with regard to the 2-meter distance and health rules.
Flamengo has not been fined or taken legal action for failing to comply with municipal or state legislation regarding social isolation or its easing, and it is worth mentioning that it was recently the only club 100% approved by the health inspection carried out by the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro.
It's surprising that the aforementioned columnist, given the club's caution, would attribute the adjective "denialist" to Flamengo's president. Since the pandemic began in Brazil, Flamengo has worked hard through its Vice President of Social Responsibility to help mitigate the damage caused by the public health crisis.
Flamengo has directly distributed numerous food baskets, 200 bottles of hand sanitizer, authorized its brand for the production of masks, and sponsored a "Live" event, which had more than one million views and promoted actions and raised donations for philanthropic entities to fulfill their social role.
There's no denialist or anti-quarantine crusade. What we're doing is responsible work that values respect for the law and the city and state authorities of Rio de Janeiro.
Finally, it's important to note that the relationship between the President of Flamengo and the President of Brazil is purely institutional, between leaders of two nations. The reporter's claim that there's a "mixture of football and politics that offends fans and dishonors the club's traditions" is not serious.
The columnist for the newspaper O Globo is not qualified to speak about the honor or tradition of the red-blacks, and his text, in reality, is what shames the impartiality and investigation that should guide the work of the profession he performs.
