Flamengo's carbon offset in 2020 is equivalent to the preservation of 12 trees

Climatech Moss, the club's sponsor, compiled an inventory of greenhouse gases generated by the football team's activities in 2020.

Moss, one of the largest carbon credit buying and selling platforms, will offset 2.056,112 tons of carbon emitted by the administrative and sporting activities of the Flamengo soccer team, which has been sponsored by the company since March 2021. "With this, Flamengo will become the largest carbon-neutral club in Brazil," highlights Luis Felipe Adaime, CEO and founder of Moss.

Mais Querido's Vice President of Marketing Communications, Gustavo Oliveira, celebrated the milestone, which is in line with the club's growing involvement with social and environmental causes.

"Flamengo is aware of its role in society and of being the largest sports communications platform in Latin America. We know that our messages and actions reach millions of fans across the vast Red-Black Nation, and that they can help convey important messages to all of these people. Environmental preservation is one of them. For us, this partnership with Moss not only makes Flamengo the largest carbon-neutral club in Brazil, but also, and most importantly, enables us to be another major promoter of environmental causes," said the director.

In the market since March 2020, Moss is a pioneer in digitizing carbon credits issued by forest management and environmental conservation projects in the Amazon. MCO2, the first truly global green digital asset backed by blockchain, is equivalent to one ton of carbon dioxide that is no longer emitted into the atmosphere. Through this initiative, more than R$100 million has already been allocated to sustainability projects involving the Amazon rainforest, preserving more than 735 trees in the region. This innovation will neutralize the Club's direct emissions, contributing to tree conservation in forest management projects in the Amazon. The 2.056 MCO2 tokens will benefit the Santa Maria Forestry Project.

"We have the largest tropical forest in the world within our territory and a series of challenges to preserve it. This partnership with Flamengo has allowed us to demonstrate that it is possible to help protect the Amazon in a practical and safe way through the purchase of carbon credits. Offsetting the club's emissions is a great opportunity to raise awareness of this, reinforcing that the shared effort to combat deforestation has a very positive socio-environmental impact," says Luis Adaime.

Moss has been experiencing triple-digit monthly growth throughout 2021 and now has over 300 customers and partners. Moss recently reached the milestone of over 2,3 million MCO2 traded, representing over 2 million carbon credits offset, representing over 2% of all carbon credits traded annually worldwide.
