The Flamengo Deliberative Council approved this Tuesday (03/02) a proposal to update the Social Statute with the aim of improving and clarifying the prohibition of members participating in other sports associations, national or foreign, when such activity may generate a conflict of interest with the Club.

The initiative, presented by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, together with the presidents of the Boards of Administration, Deliberative Council, Fiscal Council, Council of Great Benefactors, and the General Assembly, does not create a new principle, but reinforces and details a prohibition already existing in the Statute, aligning its wording with the recent transformations in the sporting environment and the new management structures of football.

Why is the update necessary?

The Flamengo Statute enshrines the duty of unconditional loyalty as a fundamental principle in the actions of its members and directors. This duty presupposes the absence of ties that could compromise decisions, generate conflicts of interest, or jeopardize the institutional integrity of the Club.

In recent years, the sports landscape has come to coexist with more complex corporate structures, such as Public Limited Football Companies (SAFs), investment funds, holding companies, and other instruments that, although legal, do not always explicitly reveal the economic or influential relationships that may be incompatible with this duty of loyalty.

Given this context, the proposal seeks to eliminate interpretative ambiguities, increase legal certainty, and protect Flamengo from situations that, in practice, contradict principles already established in the Statute, even if formally framed within indirect structures.
