Historic day! Flamengo acquires land and takes the first step toward building its own stadium.

Wednesday, August 31, 2024: A historic day for Flamengo. The club took the first step toward building its own stadium, acquiring the Gasômetro site at an auction held at the Rio City Hall auditorium in Cidade Nova.
"We're happy, but even more relieved, because we know the responsibility of being here working to fulfill so many people's dreams. We know the positive impact that news like this can have on our fans. As the football club with the largest fan base and greatest passion in the country, the sky's the limit. Anything is possible for Flamengo. We must always think big, but more than that, dream and work to build an ever-greater Flamengo," celebrated president Landim.
Present, alongside Mayor Eduardo Paes and Federal Deputy Pedro Paulo, were President Rodolfo Landim, General Vice President Rodrigo Dunshee, Vice President of Assets Marcos Bodin, Vice President of Football Marcos Braz, CEO Reinaldo Belotti, and the Directors of Legal and Communications, Antônio Panza and Bernardo Monteiro.
"It's incredibly exciting to be here laying this cornerstone. One step at a time. Totally optimistic, we're here fighting to make this dream come true, a dream of the fans, of our children. Flamengo is very interested in establishing a wonderful partnership with the city government, and the public notice already provides several important guidelines. Let's work together," concluded Dunshee.
As the only bidder in the auction, Flamengo needed only one bid to win the venue for R$138.195.000,00. After acceptance, Eduardo Paes was called to the table to approve the bid, causing commotion and celebration among those present in the auditorium, who sang the club's anthem in celebration.
After the act is published in the Official Gazette, Flamengo will have five business days to make the payment, which will be made by the club itself, in cash.
"A Flamengo stadium is good for the city. We're undertaking a fundamental urban transformation for Rio at Porto Maravilha. From the beginning, we've sought to bring iconic facilities to the site, and this stadium will be very good for Rio, bringing investment and improvements to the city," said Mayor Eduardo Paes.
Timeline
The City of Rio de Janeiro, through Decree 54.961 of June 21, 2024, carried out the expropriation of the property located at Avenida São Cristóvão, nº 1200. On July 9, the auction notice was published in the Official Gazette.
Last Monday (29), in an extraordinary meeting of the Deliberative Council, 602 councilors voted in favor of the club's participation in this afternoon's auction, after reading the opinions of the Permanent Finance, Legal and Marketing Committees of CODE and the opinion of the Fiscal Council.
Now, the board's estimate is to open the stadium on November 15, 2029, the club's anniversary.
