Clube de Regatas do Flamengo continues to expand its professionalization strategy and strengthen its sports management and announces the hiring of Marcus Vinícius Simões Freire to take on the role of Director of Olympic Sports.

Marcus Vinícius brings extensive experience as both an athlete and a manager. A former player of the historic "Silver Generation" of Brazilian volleyball, he was a silver medalist at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and champion at the 1983 Pan American Games. His athletic career began in Flamengo's youth academy, where he played as a junior athlete in 1976/77, returning to the club as an adult player for the 1987/88 seasons before moving to Europe.

He was CEO of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) from 2008 to 2016, leading the Brazilian delegation at several Olympic Games. He was also the General Executive Director of Fluminense and a founding executive of digital companies. Recognized for his ability to implement governance and excellence models, he arrives at Flamengo with the mission of modernizing and driving the development of Olympic sports at the club and strengthening the club's legacy in Olympic sports.

With a degree in Economics from Cândido Mendes University, MBAs from PUC-Rio and IBMEC, a Singularity University Executive Program, and a Board Member Development Program from Dom Cabral Foundation, Marcus Vinicius combines sports experience with a solid academic and executive background. Flamengo remains focused on strengthening its management structure and ensuring success on all fronts, maintaining its commitment to its winning tradition and vision for the future.
