Flamengo held a breakfast with journalists and Flamengo influencers this Friday morning (May 24.05th) in the Rogerio Steinberg auditorium at its Gávea headquarters to publicize the club's Social Responsibility initiatives. The department's report was also presented, highlighting the ongoing efforts and results achieved in its initiatives aimed at socially vulnerable people. Founded in 2019, the vice presidency embraces the responsibility of using the club's influence to make a positive social impact. The recently released report, for the year 2023, transparently and objectively highlights the initiatives adopted to significantly contribute to social development across its four lines of work: Education, Social Inclusion, Sustainability, and Health and Quality of Life.

"Flamengo is more than a club; it's a link that unites people toward a common goal: promoting a more just and sustainable society. The Social Responsibility Report reflects our commitment to the community and social development. During 2023, in partnership with social institutions, we reached thousands of young people and children with our projects, paving the way for a brighter future," says Ricardo Campelo, vice president of the department.

In its commitment to education, the club's Social Responsibility Department focuses primarily on socio-emotional education and the right to learning, implementing projects that contribute to quality education for all. The projects developed involve social institutions throughout Rio de Janeiro and serve children and young people from communities.

"The idea for this breakfast was a way we found to promote the department. Many people are unaware of our work. And the intention is precisely that these actions multiply so that more and more people can be reached," said Ângela Machado, director of social responsibility.

Education-focused projects include "We Will Play Together," "Perfect Pass," "The Nation's Future," "Back to School, Nation!", "Come Read, Come Read, Come Read!", and "Fla Comunica." In partnership with social institutions and public schools throughout Rio de Janeiro, the projects focus on education through sports, training young educators, encouraging writing and reading, and ensuring children and young people remain in school.

Within the scope of Sustainability, the aim is to promote projects and initiatives that encourage, among its internal and external audiences, reflection on environmental preservation, as well as awareness of sustainable practices and environmental education.

These initiatives allow participants to help plant trees through the "Pé de Gol" project, which, in partnership with the city government, the Department of the Environment, and technical supervision from the Perma Lab Institute, has already planted more than 2.000 trees in degraded and protected areas. Recycling is also addressed in projects such as "Recicla, Nação," which, through the recycling of plastic and cardboard, and in partnership with the Soul Environmental Institute, has helped combat food insecurity among socially vulnerable people.

In Social Inclusion projects, the Department established the opening of spaces and channels that recognize identities, cultures, ethnicities, beliefs and genders, encouraging social development to create safer communities.

The commitment to Social Inclusion also includes professional training for Brazilian women and refugees through the "Shoulder to Shoulder" project. And with the "Nation at Maracanã" project, which, in collaboration with institutions, brought people from socially vulnerable groups to Maracanã, such as the homeless, those sheltered by social reintegration institutions, Indigenous people, refugees, and public school students. The project aims to promote the democratization of spaces.

The initiatives also target the internal audience. The "Combating Racism" project, in partnership with the Instituto dos Pretos Novos (New Blacks Institute), took Flamengo basketball players to a meeting on raising awareness of respect and equality. The Social Responsibility Department, in collaboration with employees from other departments such as human resources, communications, women's soccer, youth soccer, and Olympic sports, created the Anti-Racism Working Group to contribute to the promotion of racial equality through research.

Flamengo also recognizes the importance of health and quality of life, promoting and supporting actions, campaigns, projects and initiatives that provide physical and mental well-being to its members and the community in general.

"It was a very important event where we were able to showcase some of our work, reaffirming the club's commitment to social responsibility and its role as an agent of change in society. We're certain that people left knowing a little more about us," concluded manager Camila Nascimento.
