Power on and off the field. BYD and Clube de Regatas do Flamengo announce an unprecedented partnership: the Rubro-Negro will be the first club in Brazil to use a 100% electric bus for its sports operations. The BYD D9F will be available for the team's Olympic sports and will serve more than 1.100 athletes across various disciplines, including Basketball, Artistic Gymnastics, Judo, Artistic Swimming, Swimming, Water Polo, and Women's Soccer.

The delivery ceremony was held this Wednesday (13), at the club's Rowing headquarters, in Gávea, Rio de Janeiro, and was attended by Marcello Schneider, director of Commercial Vehicles and Solar at BYD, and Marcus Vinicius Freire, director of Olympic Sports at Flamengo. To facilitate the operation, a charging station will be installed at Maracanãzinho, the Olympic gymnasium in the Maracanã complex, ensuring practicality and efficiency in the use of the vehicle.

Technology and sustainability in motion

More than just transporting athletes, the BYD D9F will power sports with zero emissions, silent operation, and a range of up to 250 km. In just one year of use, the greentech vehicle will be able to prevent the emission of 182 tons of CO₂, an environmental impact equivalent to planting more than 1274 trees.

What drives the BYD D9F

The model was developed for urban use with high-floor bodies up to 13 meters long. It features a tubular chassis with high resistance to torsion and bending, eliminating the need for stretching. Its motors, integrated into the rear axle wheels, feature an electronic traction control module, ensuring power and efficiency.

The BYD D9F's distinguishing features include front and rear air suspension, which ensures maximum comfort for passengers and the driver; disc brakes with ABS and a regenerative system, which increase the vehicle's safety and range; the adjustable steering column, which offers better ergonomics for the driver; and low maintenance costs and fast recharge times, which make operation practical and efficient on a daily basis.

According to Flamengo's Director of Olympic Sports, the arrival of the bus will make a huge difference for the club, which boasts ten sports and six Olympic medalists from Paris. "Our athletes deserve this kind of service, which, together with a manufacturer committed to clean energy, helps reduce travel times, resources, and pollution in Rio and Brazil," celebrated Marcus Vinicius.
