Flamengo and Universidade Brasil award first scholarships to employees and staff
The certificates will be awarded on Thursday, the 28th, in a ceremony that will bring together players in Gávea
By Communication - Flamengo - inFlamengo and Universidade Brasil held, this Thursday (28), at Ninho do Urubu, the delivery of scholarships to collaborators, employees and representatives chosen by the club, as a result of the partnership between the two entities – signed at the beginning of 2018, and which bears the name of 'Sport with Education'. The scholarships are 100% full for more than 65 courses offered by the institution.
The project includes providing scholarships for in-person and distance learning to low-income individuals, based on the team's performance in the Brazilian Championship. Four requirements are considered per match: goals scored, goals not conceded, wins, and leading the league in the league.
This week's ceremony still refers to Flamengo's performance in last year's competition. Thanks to the team's excellent placement, Universidade Brasil allocated 106 scholarships, which will begin to be delivered this week, after the entrance exam that was held this Wednesday (27), in Gávea.
"This partnership with Universidade Brasil is extremely important for Flamengo. Besides giving us the opportunity to unite such important areas as sports and education, we're also able to provide scholarships to the club's employees, as they also make Flamengo's Most Beloved in the World ever stronger. We thank the institution for another successful initiative and for the partnership," said Maurício Portela, Flamengo's marketing director.
"This type of action should always serve as an example, as it combines sport with education and allows many people connected to Flamengo to realize their dream of attending university. We know how much this means to them and that's why we feel honored to be part of a club that contributes not only to football, but to society in general," said midfielder Diego, who participated in the scholarship delivery event alongside Gabigol, De Arrascaeta and Everton Ribeiro.
One of the scholarship recipients, Márcio Soares, recognized the value of the partnership. "I've been at Flamengo for nine years and I'm having this contact with the players for the first time. And on top of that, I'm getting a scholarship to go to college. I couldn't be happier."
In addition to the "Sport with Education" initiative, Flamengo and Universidade Brasil are already exploring new projects, one of which is a pioneering initiative in Brazil: the implementation of educational centers within the club's facilities. These facilities will be personalized with the club's name and colors and will be used for dozens of courses. Plans are also in place between the two institutions to provide scholarships to athletes on the club's women's team and amateur sports teams.
"These actions demonstrate how sports and education can go hand in hand through practical, concrete projects. We are more than just sponsors; we want to be partners and leave legacies for society as a whole. I am certain that education linked to sports is indispensable in our lives, as it shapes ethics and civility within each of us," stated Fernando Costa, president of Universidade Brasil.
