This Saturday (1), the national Labor Day holiday, Flamengo ended the auction of the shirts used by the players in the final of the Brazilian Super Cup, when they won the competition for the second time. Twenty-three Sacred Mantles were sold to fans and collectors across Brazil and the world (23 from Brazil, four from the USA and one from Germany). All proceeds will go to the 'Nação Solidária' campaign. The event was held through 'Match Worn Shirt', which is the world's largest football shirt auction platform.
In total, the club raised a gross amount of 27.263 euros, equivalent to 175 reais. The most expensive jersey was that of goalkeeper Diego Alves, the protagonist of the title. The price, at 3.888 euros, was the highest ever raised for a player's jersey in Latin America.
Flamengo's VP of Communications and Marketing, Gustavo Oliveira, highlighted the importance of this initiative:
"This auction was another initiative that marketing has undertaken to support the 'Nação Solidária' program. Raising funds at this level will further expand the crucial work our Vice Presidency of Social Responsibility has been doing in various underserved communities. Furthermore, this international auction was another way to show the world the strength of our brand,” said the director.
The 'Nação Solidária' campaign is an initiative of Flamengo's Social Responsibility department, which aims to mobilize society and raise funds to combat the impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of people in vulnerable situations.
