Flamengo's Social Responsibility Department carried out, on the morning of this Wednesday (18), an action to distribute basic food baskets to families in situations of social vulnerability in the Morro dos Macacos region, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The action was carried out in partnership with the Gem Paz organization, which works with vulnerable families in the region. In total, 100 basic food baskets were distributed. The action was part of the Recicla Nação project, from the Club's Social Responsibility Department, which allocates solid waste, such as bottle caps and other plastic materials, for recycling, directing all the financial resources obtained to combat food insecurity through food distribution. 

Implemented in partnership with the Soul Environmental Institute, Recicla Nação has already recycled more than 66 tons of solid waste, directly impacting more than 5 families from socially vulnerable backgrounds over the project's four years. Recycling and the reintroduction of plastic into other production cycles bring food to the hungry, in an initiative that combines sustainability with the fight against hunger through environmental education.

"Flamengo's action today was very important, because it provided support to 100 vulnerable families here in Morro dos Macacos. Thanks to this collaboration, we were able to distribute essential food baskets, alleviating the hunger of many people who often have nothing to put on the table, especially at Christmas. And all this through recycling! We are very happy!" said Alessandra Falcão, president of the Gem Paz organization.

In addition to promoting solidarity and immediate support for those in need, Recicla Nação contributes to environmental awareness, generating a positive cycle of social and environmental impact. By combining the power of sport, social responsibility, and sustainability, the project exemplifies how community initiatives can transform lives and build a more just future for all.
