The night was filled with excitement and celebration at the Gávea headquarters. In a ceremony at the clubhouse, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo kicked off construction of the new Flamengo Museum, a project carried out in partnership with MUDE, which has already designed and implemented 17 museums in six countries, including River Plate, Boca Juniors, Benfica, Juventus, and the CONMEBOL Museum.
A long-standing dream of the Club's fans and members, the new Flamengo Museum will initially occupy a 1200 m² space at the Gávea headquarters, with an opening scheduled for July 2022, and will then be expanded to 2.000 m².
For Flamengo President Rodolfo Landim, there is no doubt about the importance of the Museum not only for the millions of Flamengo fans, but also for the city:
"Today is a historic day for Flamengo. We are beginning a new era that will be a source of pride for all Flamengo fans. We believe that the Flamengo Museum will soon become a tourist attraction in Rio de Janeiro, with a huge positive impact on the city's economy. The museum will showcase all the magical moments that make up the mosaic of Flamengo's history. Past and present will meet with the same harmony seen in the stadiums between our immense fan base and the team," said Landim, thanking everyone involved.
"I'd like to thank everyone who has dreamed alongside us over the years. To all our sponsors, Mude, who embraced the idea, bringing knowledge and expertise in the field. And especially to Diniz, our Vice President of Assets, a natural enthusiast. If it weren't for his effort and dedication, we certainly wouldn't be here celebrating this achievement today," he added.
The total investment is approximately R$18 million, with 30% coming from MUDE Brasil, partly through equity, and partly through financing obtained from AgeRio. The remaining 70% comes from sponsorships, and BRB, Ambev, Epson, Tim, Estapar, and Trem do Corcovado have already confirmed their participation in the project, with some of the funds obtained through State Sports and Culture Incentive Laws and the Municipal Culture Incentive Law. Clube de Regatas do Flamengo will not contribute any of its own resources to the project.
"The Flamengo Museum was the first project we embraced in the Brazilian market and gave rise to our local operation. We are thrilled to not only tell the story, but to make history, with Brazil's most beloved club. The entire MUDE team is committed to making it a huge success," says Marcelo Fernandes, CEO of MUDE Brasil.
According to a study by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV), the new Flamengo Museum will have a significant impact on Rio de Janeiro's tourism ecosystem. Its Economic Leverage Index is R$37,00, meaning that for every real invested in the Flamengo Museum project, thirty-seven reais return to the Rio economy, whether in the form of taxes, job creation, or increased tourism-related services.
According to FGV, the Flamengo Museum is expected to generate an economic impact in Rio de Janeiro of over R$300 million per year. MUDE Brasil estimates that Rio de Janeiro's newest cultural facility will attract 400 Flamengo fans annually, including locals and tourists.
Flamengo Museum will tell the club's history and achievements in 14 immersive themed areas
The new museum's route will consist of 14 themed areas, covering soccer, rowing, basketball, and other sports that make Flamengo Brazil's most beloved and successful club. There will also be a special tribute to the fans, the immense Nação Rubro-Negra (Red-Black Nation).
The Flamengo Museum will be an interactive and impactful spectacle, with Artificial Intelligence solutions that will make the visitor experience even more exciting. And this experience isn't limited to the Gávea space, as the future museum will also have an online digital environment, where visitors will have access to other content and attractions.
Under the responsibility of Flamengo's Vice-Presidency of Historical Heritage, the project for the new Museum crowns the work of research, organization and preservation of the Club's memory that has been carried out in recent years.
"We will have a modern and interactive museum, on par with the best club museums in the world. This is undoubtedly the greatest legacy we will leave to our immense fan base, covering the various moments in the club's history," says Flamengo's Vice President of Historical Heritage, Roberto Magalhães Diniz.
The Flamengo Museum will be built according to the most demanding sustainability and accessibility standards, and another major differentiator of the project will be the socio-educational programs, planned to take place as soon as the new Museum begins operations.
