Last Wednesday (15), Flamengo launched the “Shoulder to Shoulder” project, which will work with 40 women, Brazilians and Venezuelan refugees, in professional training in sewing. Throughout the course, lasting 4 months, they will learn the fundamentals of cutting, modeling, sewing and finishing basic clothing pieces, in addition to guidance on professional insertion and entrepreneurship.

These activities will enable income generation, social inclusion, and the development of autonomy for the participating women. Through the project, students will also have the opportunity to learn production techniques based on the reuse of textile and plastic waste, combining sustainability with social inclusion.

As its main objective, “Ombro a Ombro” aims to transform realities through professional training and income generation, giving women from socially vulnerable contexts new perspectives of carrying out a professional activity to support themselves and their families, in addition to improving their self-esteem.

With classes three times a week, the project takes place at Casa de Oportunidades, in Itanhangá, a space where several professional training courses are held that benefit the residents of Morro do Banco and Venezuelan refugees welcomed by the “Brazil Without Borders” program.
