Flamengo participates in SOS Favela and donates 640 basic food baskets to Chatuba de Mesquita
Club joins Viva Rio campaign and carries out solidarity action in the community

On the morning of this Thursday (09), the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, in support of the SOS Favela/Viva Rio campaign, donated 640 basic food baskets to the residents of Chatuba de Mesquita. The Social Responsibility action, which also marks the launch of the Solidarity Nation campaign: Flamengo champion on and off the field, was supported by family members of the Club's directors and players, Embassies and Consulates of Mengão, and took place at the Instituto Mundo Novo. Ângela Landim, wife of the president, and Carlos Henrique Fernandes, vice-president of the General Assembly, were present.

"I was very excited about how quickly we got everyone involved. The campaign is very important and I wanted to thank everyone who contributed to the cause," said Ângela.
What is the SOS Favela campaign?
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, residents of Rio de Janeiro's communities are facing hardship. With schools closed, children are not receiving meals, and the vast majority of parents are experiencing reduced income. Given this situation, the campaign consists of collecting food and hygiene items that will benefit 66 communities. The aid comes in the form of basic food baskets, valued at R$50,00. The products are purchased at local markets, specifically to stimulate local commerce.
Long live Rio
Viva Rio, a partner of the club in this initiative, was founded 24 years ago and is an institution focused on social projects, whose main goal is to include and provide opportunities to those who truly need them. It is led by men and women who believe in guaranteeing rights and racial and gender equality. One of its notable projects is the Pérolas Negras Football Academy, which provides education and high-performance sports for refugees and young people living in favelas and peripheral areas. Furthermore, it believes in social inclusion as a tool for professional growth.
