This week, Flamengo held another edition of the "Come Read, Come Read, Come Read!" project at the Otávio Júnior Library, located in Complexo do Alemão. The Department of Social Responsibility, in partnership with the Historical Heritage, engaged around 40 children from the region in the initiative.

 

During the event, children participated in activities to encourage reading, discussion groups, and educational activities, and received children's books and Flamengo backpacks. The project connects socially vulnerable children with books, encourages critical thinking and creativity, and strengthens participants' self-esteem.

 

Conceived by the Instituto Papo Reto, the Otávio Júnior Library already represents a symbol of cultural resistance and democratization of access to literature in Rio's favelas. "We begin to teach children to enjoy reading so that it becomes a habit. Reading makes us strong and brings us knowledge. I hope other institutions do similar work," remarked Renata Trajano, co-founder of the institute.

 

This edition of 'Come Read, Come Read, Come Read!' was part of the Rio World Book Capital committee's campaign, a partner and supporter of the project, which donated the books the children received. The campaign is part of the official program for Rio de Janeiro, which in 2025 received the title of World Book Capital from UNESCO in recognition of the excellence of its reading promotion projects.
