Flamengo has taken another step in its quest to have the Nation recognized as the first symbolic-cultural Nation in the world by the United Nations (UN).

The club has submitted a request to the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN) for the Nation to be recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Brazil.

The document was delivered by the club's greatest idol in history, Zico, to the president of IPHAN, Leandro Grass, and the director of Intangible Heritage of the institution, Deyvesson Gusmão, during a visit to the club's Historical Heritage collection in Gávea.

The president of the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN), Leandro Grass, stated that the request submitted by Flamengo opens a relevant dialogue about the recognition of cultural elements linked to football in Brazil. According to him, the proposal to register the so-called "Flamengo Nation" as intangible heritage represents an innovative possibility within the national heritage policy.

"Flamengo is a Nation. A Nation without borders. A Nation of 45 million people who speak the same language, who share the same passion and who recognize themselves anywhere in the world," Zico stated in a new video addressed to the Nation.

The initiative with IPHAN (National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage) is accompanied by a call for the nation to mobilize around the public petition launched last year for recognition at the UN. The document has already gathered around 600 signatures, and the goal now is to reach 1 million. Fans can register their support on the page. petition.flamengo.com.br.
