Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, in partnership with VEUS Saúde, carried out 50 Covid-19 tests on residents of two communities in Rio de Janeiro earlier this week. On Monday (20) and Tuesday (21), the action took place with residents of Cruzada São Sebastião, in the South Zone, and Vila Aliança, located in the West Zone of the city.

At Cruzada, the residents tested were selected based on age, housing diversity, and the number of residents per residence. It's important to emphasize that the elderly, even in isolation, are more exposed to contamination, as their family members must leave home to return to work. The Residents' Association, in conjunction with the Basquete Cruzada project, and psychologist Renata Victor Silva, decided who to test.

In Vila Aliança, the tests were administered to young people participating in the "Craques da Vida" project, as well as their educators, with the goal of resuming the project's activities, which had been suspended since the beginning of the pandemic. "Craques da Vida" is celebrating its 23rd anniversary and transforms lives through soccer. The tests were performed at the IACB (Bangu Clinical Analysis Institute).

"We're going through a very difficult time due to the pandemic, and Bangu has been diagnosed as the place with the most infected people. So, at this moment, this social intervention is extremely important because it will give us a paradigm for what we should do in this difficult time. Families will feel more at ease, and we will be able to plan a new approach, following the established safety protocols," emphasized Franklin Ferreira, President of "Craques da Vida."

It's important to emphasize that, in this partnership between Flamengo and VEUS Saúde (which is conducting rapid tests with results in 15 minutes at the former Mengão Health Center in Lagoa), it was agreed to provide 50 COVID-19 tests for social responsibility purposes. The club, through Fla Gávea, in a socially responsible attitude, made a point of including these tests in the negotiation, given the vulnerability that the novel coronavirus pandemic poses to some groups.
