An important moment for Flamengo's Social Responsibility! Last Saturday (16), Flamengo was the only Latin American club to participate in COP29, in Baku, Azerbaijan, as a guest and founding member of the newly created Football Clubs for Climate Alliance (FCACC). This global alliance brings together football clubs committed to sustainability to promote effective action against climate change, leveraging the popularity and reach of football to inspire positive transformations around the world.

Flamengo's presence as the only non-European club at the signing of the Declaration of The Football Clubs' Climate Alliance highlights the international recognition of club's commitment to sustainable practices. Authorized by the European Club Association (ECA), Flamengo's participation reinforces the necessary global cooperation to tackle climate challenges, demonstrating the power of football to unite forces in this urgent cause.

The Baku Declaration, signed at COP29, establishes a commitment to the UNFCCC's Sports Framework for Climate Action, with shared climate action among clubs. Signing the Declaration means that all participating clubs, including Flamengo, adopt the UN framework's guidelines, committing to implementing the climate agenda and consequently reducing their carbon emissions.

In an official letter, the organization thanks Flamengo, president Rodolfo Landim and the Vice President of Social Responsibility and Citizenship, Kátia Alonso, who represented the club in Baku. Flamengo's leadership in this alliance puts the club at the forefront of efforts of sustainability among football clubs in Latin America and reinforces its role as a leader for the region.

Founder of the Sport for the Planet Institute, Kátia took over as Flamengo's Vice President of Social Responsibility and Citizenship in August. A multi-champion and award-winning athlete, competing in rowing and water polo, she is the founder of the Sport for the Planet Institute (EPP), the world's first sports institute to operate in the carbon credit market, in partnership with Carbonext. She is also leading the proposal for the National Climate Action Plan for Sport (PNACE) at the Ministry of Sports. Her leadership confirms Flamengo's support for sustainability initiatives and concrete actions against climate change. With her extensive experience in topics encompassing climate issues and social responsibility, Kátia aims to promote Flamengo as an example for football clubs in Brazil and throughout Latin America, and is already working towards this goal in partnership with Terra FC.
