On Thursday night (08), Flamengo went to Casa G20, located at Casa de Cultura Laura Alvim, in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, for the pre-launch of the Terra Futebol Clube - Green Football Brazil project, a project by Count Us In and Onda Solidária. Believing in the transformative power of sport, the objective of the meeting was to give the starting whistle to the match to mobilize players, clubs and fans against climate actions around the world. Angela Machado, Director of Social Responsibility, was present on behalf of Mais Querido.

"It's an event I've been waiting for a long time, and I consider it a very important first step (...) nothing is more perfect than combining football with sustainability. Regardless of which team someone supports, it attracts many fans. And fans are stadiums, they're sports. All of this combined with sustainability is perfectly connected, and I don't know why no one thought of it before. He (Ricardo Calçado, Director of Terra FC) is carrying this drive he has to bring everyone together toward the same goal. I have the impression that it will work out very well, and we at Flamengo are counting on it. I think the nation will embrace it," declared Angela, who added about projects the club is already implementing.

Representatives and youth athletes from Rio's other three major clubs were also present at the ceremony, which was also attended by members of the Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability, the Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat for Youth and Healthy Aging, singer Raimundo Fagner, advisors from Y20, the Indigenous Games, international sustainability consultants, and other renowned individuals and institutions supporting the cause.

"We talk a lot about using the power of football to protect what we love. And this is a story about engaging people through passion. We have people here who make a difference at the forefront because they believe, because they're passionate about the sport and the planet. Engaging, uniting… we're here to join forces. And in Brazil, there's no greater passion than football. Not just in Brazil, but worldwide," says Ricardo Calçado, Director of Terra FC.

Called on stage after the explanation about the campaign, which also included the participation of Eric Levine, from Count Us In, and Marcos Botelho, from Onda Solidária, both also Directors of Terra FC, guests and representatives of the Rio clubs signed the official shirt of the project as a gesture of commitment to the future actions to be implemented, among them the organization of green games throughout Brazil; the creation of awareness campaigns about climate change; and the articulation of public policies for a more sustainable future.
