Gustavo Fernandes: “We are taking advantage of the club's closure to carry out renovations and improvements”

Vice-president of Fla-Gávea speaks to the Official Website about maintenance and investments in the social headquarters during the quarantine period

The Gávea clubhouse is taking on new forms during the social isolation measures to contain the novel coronavirus pandemic. Taking advantage of the club's limited circulation of employees, members, and visitors, the Vice-Presidency and board of directors of Fla-Gávea are continuing several renovations and improvements to the facility.

It is worth noting that only reduced cleaning and maintenance teams are working at the headquarters at this time, following the hygiene and interpersonal distancing guidelines recommended by health authorities and having all the necessary equipment available for your safety.

How important is it for members to continue paying their monthly dues?

During this period, we continued to maintain the club rigorously. We are paying our water, electricity, and gas bills as usual, as well as the cleaning and maintenance companies. We also took the opportunity to continue several services that were difficult to execute with the Club in full operation and this is only possible with the members' understanding of the need to maintain full payment of monthly fees.

What are these services?

Ten key actions can be highlighted: overhauling the Club's substations, including transformer replacement; renovating the field and cleaning the stands; installing a walkway over the playground alley, ensuring safe crossing for children; sanitizing all areas of the Club with a suitable product; pruning trees on Gilberto Cardoso Street; general Club maintenance with internal teams; maintaining the pools and their pumps; daily cleaning of the clubhouse; completing the paving of the alley, which had already begun before the club closed; painting and garden maintenance services.

What stage of recovery is the official field at?

Since the last major overhaul of the field, which took place in 2014 during the World Cup in Brazil, we've only made a few minor repairs. With the large number of youth soccer matches, maintaining the required quality for our teams was becoming increasingly difficult. So, we removed all the grass and replanted it with the necessary leveling. The new field, suitable for use, is expected to be delivered in the first half of May.

When returning to activities, how will members find the club?

When the isolation period ends and the headquarters reopens for operation, members will find the Club much better than they last saw it, and we can say that, if social isolation ended today, it would practically be ready for immediate use by members, Olympic sports, visitors, etc.

What are the next plans for improvements and renovations to the headquarters?

Due to the pandemic, we had to review our improvement and renovation schedule, but we immediately resumed renovations on the courts at the Togo Renan Soares (volleyball) and Adílio (futsal) Gymnasiums, and we will renovate the Tennis restrooms.
