On Monday morning (25), Jorge Jesus, two-time Conmebol Libertadores champion and seven-time Brazilian Championship champion, was honored at the Rio de Janeiro City Council. Mister received the official title of Honorary Citizen of Rio de Janeiro from Councilman Felipe Michel. The president, Rodolfo Landim, the General Vice-President, Rodrigo Dunshee, the Vice-President of External Relations, Luiz Eduardo Baptista, the CEO, Reinaldo Belotti, the Director of Football, Bruno Spindel and the Director of Government Relations, Aleksander Santos, were present.
In the presence of many Flamengo fans, their families and guests, Jesus gave a very emotional speech, in which he expressed his happiness at receiving the honor, spoke of the connection between the countries and praised Flamengo.
"As a Portuguese citizen and now a citizen of Rio de Janeiro, especially because I was already a Brazilian citizen beforehand because of the connection between Brazil and Portugal, I feel proud. As a child, my teachers taught me that Brazil was a brother country. That's how I was raised. If I'm here, it's thanks to Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, which gave me this opportunity. I can tell everyone that I work for the biggest club in the world. Football is a means of unity and culture. So, Portugal is proud of me," he declared.
"Mister is doing a wonderful job and has countless characteristics that caught my attention from the first day we spoke. I'd like to thank Felipe Michel for paying this tribute to a Portuguese man who is very Carioca. It's not just recognition for his profession, but also for all his actions. My wish, and that of the entire nation, is that Mister will be with us for a long time," said Rodolfo Landim.
