"Flamengo nas Vilas Olímpicas" is a partnership between Mais Querido and the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Sports Department. Its goal is to attract new talent to the club's youth teams, as well as to help develop these facilities. A total of 28 Olympic villages will be part of the program, and the most outstanding athletes may be selected for evaluation at Flamengo. Participating children range in age from 7 to 14.
The project began in 2019 but was interrupted by the pandemic. The idea is to help the Olympic Villages increase the number of young players on their teams. Once a semester, Flamengo will conduct an athlete selection process while simultaneously training the professionals at these Villages for the numerous social projects they carry out.
Luiz Carlos, General Manager of the Youth Club, spoke about the program: "We go to these Olympic Villages, conduct training and assessment work, and ultimately seek new talent for our youth academy. We want to increasingly be present where no one else is. This partnership is very important for the club," he commented.
Marcelo Leite, Special Advisor to the Municipal Sports Department, emphasized the importance of the project: "Returning to this partnership with Flamengo means reaffirming the dreams of these children, offering them a well-structured club to help them develop athletically. Only Flamengo presented a proposal with a reliable methodology and also provides support to keep the children going, through a transportation and food stipend," he concluded.
