Official Note - Flamengo's Position
By Communication - Flamengo - inFirst, Clube de Regatas do Flamengo clarifies that, contrary to what the three lawyers claimed, it never claimed to be negotiating with nine families. The club reaffirms that it has already reached an agreement with one family and is negotiating with three. It remains open to further negotiations. It is worth clarifying that the lawyer representing athlete Rykelmo's family is Dr. Gislaine Nunes, who has already met with the club's legal team.
Regarding the claim that the club did not seek out the seven families represented by the three lawyers to negotiate, Flamengo recalls that in a meeting at the Court of Justice on 21/2/2019, the lawyers did not agree with the proposed terms and ended the talks.
Also differently from what was said by the lawyers, Flamengo has been providing all material and psychological support to the families of the athletes who were at the George Helal Training Center on the day of the fire (8/2/2019) that killed ten young people.
During these 39 days, the club always strived to be there for the athletes' families, providing financial and psychological support. All transportation, food, and lodging expenses were covered by the club, which spared no effort to meet every need.
During the entire hospitalization of the three injured athletes, the club maintained a person responsible for the family's logistics, as well as a doctor to oversee all hospital procedures. The club also provided accommodation and meals for the relatives.
Flamengo has spent R$222.580,30 on airfare and accommodations for the players' relatives, lawyers, and agents alone. This amount includes chartering a plane to expedite burials in cases where the logistics were more complicated.
It is worth noting that Flamengo continues to provide a monthly allowance of R$5 to the nine families who have not yet agreed to compensation.
Regarding the 16 surviving athletes, the club has already reached an agreement with 13 families and is in negotiations with the remaining three.
The club has also paid numerous tributes to its athletes, almost all of which have been duly recorded by the press, including the seventh-day mass, the month-long mass, and mourning across all sports until the end of 2019. The tribute held before the Fla-Flu match on February 14th at Maracanã was entirely organized and funded by the club. Furthermore, a club representative was present at all the burials.
Once again, Flamengo reiterates that it remains at the families' disposal to ensure everything is resolved as quickly as possible.
