Official Note: Repudiation of bad journalism

By - in
Clube de Regatas do Flamengo has issued a statement regarding the irresponsible posts made by journalist Jonas Stelmann of S1 Live. The journalist recklessly accused the club of interfering in the selection of athlete Matheus Gonçalves to get him to sign a management contract with Bertolucci Sports.

Precisely on Journalist's Day (April 7th), the citizen in question failed to perform the basic duty of the profession: fact-checking. Matheus Gonçalves has been an athlete with Bertolucci Sports since January 2019, when he was just 13 years old, and simply renewed his contract with the company for another three years.

The fact that the journalist posted and then deleted the text doesn't change the facts. We condemn bad journalism, which often misguidedly inflames fans and can lead to acts of violence.

We emphasize that the roster of players for games and the lineups are the coach's sole decision. Therefore, the inferences contained in the post are subject to legal redress, as they jeopardize the integrity of everyone involved in managing the club's football team, as well as the athlete's career.

Finally, we condemn those who share and endorse such posts without even the slightest fact-checking, as is the case with journalist Gabriel Reis, known as Paparazzo Rubro-Negro. We demand accountability and commitment in the content published and will continue our fight against those who produce "fake" content in their daily coverage of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo.
