People who grow up surrounded by books, listening to and reading stories, certainly become more capable of interpreting more complex content, not limiting themselves to merely decoded reading. Based on this conclusion, the club's Social Responsibility department and the Flamengo Museum's Education Department created the reading incentive project "Come read, come read, come read!", through which Flamengo visits community libraries and cultural facilities in peripheral areas, offering storytelling activities, quizzes, and book donations for children and adolescents. The goal is to awaken a love of reading, foster greater connection between children and books, and contribute to the transformation of community libraries into spaces for culture, learning, and leisure.

Thus, last Thursday (31), the project “Come read, come read, come read” was in Santa Cruz, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, at the headquarters of Ser Cidadão, an organization created in 2002, with the mission of contributing to the personal, professional and social development of citizens. The action brought together around 50 young people from the region and also had the presence of the mascots Urubão and Binho, who interacted and took photos with the kids.

"It was an unforgettable afternoon for our students. We're located in Santa Cruz, a neighborhood far from the city center, in an area with very little access to art and culture. So, encouraging reading and writing is crucial, especially in today's image-centric society, where everything young people consume is heavily associated with images. We realize how difficult they are with interpretation, reading, and writing, and how they position themselves in the world with words. Therefore, any activity that breaks away from the norm and encourages reading and writing in a fun way is always crucial. It shows them how enjoyable the activity can be!" said Amanda Teles, project supervisor at Ser Cidadão.

During the event, the young people present received backpacks, cups and copies of the books “Mengão do Meu Coração” and “Me Arrebata – Epopeias Rubro-negras Volume 1”, both from the publisher Onze Cultural, a supporter of the project.

Over the next few months, the "Come read, come read, come read!" project will be available in other community libraries in the city.
