Response to the Fantástico report on the fire at Ninho do Urubu
By Flamengo Regatta Club - inLast Saturday (20), Rede Globo de Televisão announced that a report will be shown on the Fantástico program, featuring employee Benedito Ferreira, who was present and helped rescue the boys on the day of the fire at our Training Center.
In the headline for the story, we were surprised that the report included the employee's claim that only one of the fire extinguishers he used worked, given that, in his sworn testimony to authorities, this same employee claimed to have initially used two extinguishers and then three more. However, there was not a single line in his statement to the police about any problems with these extinguishers.
Furthermore, the court records state that the extinguishers were properly calibrated, tested and within their validity period.
Thus, although the full content of the article is not known, it is possible to verify from the headline that it is a report that constructs a distorted narrative of the facts.
Flamengo attaches to this note, through this link, the statement of the aforementioned employee and declares that he has been providing him with all the support that a grateful employer committed to good governance should provide.
The Club informs that it has provided Rede Globo de Televisão with all necessary clarifications, both regarding the fire extinguishers and those that prove that the club is acting correctly in relation to employee Ferreira.
Flamengo expects that Rede Globo de Televisão will correctly analyze all the statements made and the data sent by the club, when the final edition of the report is prepared, so that it is not biased.
Below we reproduce the responses sent to Rede Globo de Televisão, which followed exactly the same lines as the questions asked by the journalist in charge of the report:
- Flamengo clarifies that it provided all assistance to employee Benedito Ferreira, having supported the employee, demonstrably, in several situations, as well as having compensated him spontaneously, as he was the only employee to present symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.
- The points he raised in the interview describe his personal view, which is not supported by the facts, the law, and much less the criminal investigation.
- From the accident until now, the club has provided the employee with psychological and psychiatric treatment, as well as reimbursing the cost of medication.
- Benedito asked to be transferred to Gávea, as he did not want to return to the CT, and his request was promptly granted.
- There was no loss of regular income (salary). The eventual loss was due to the pandemic, as was the case for several workers, given that, with stadium spectators banned, the extra pay earned by attending mobile boards at Maracanã games was no longer available for the vast majority of people working at these events. Furthermore, other in-person events were radically reduced, which is why the compensation of all employees who received extra pay at these types of events was also reduced or lost.
- No Flamengo employee was prevented from moving around the club, nor were they prohibited from speaking to anyone, much less the press.
- Furthermore, evidence from the criminal investigation shows that all fire extinguishers were within their expiration date, properly inspected and charged.
"This matter is in the hands of the Judiciary, and the Club has nothing to hide. On the contrary, it has always made itself available to the authorities."
