Tournament matches and a Ferdinander Beer tasting session livened up the Fla-Gávea match on Saturday and Sunday. Early on Saturday, the experienced George Hime and promising Rodrigo Cunha played a great match in the professional bracket. In this clash of generations, Cunha needed intense concentration to secure the victory. The match was decided in a close match with scores of 4-6, 6-4, and 11-9.
In the first class, Raphael Maia and Argentina's Simon Fernandez played very well. Simon prevailed, 8-5, and qualified to face Ailton Ginuino in the round of 9. João Gabriel Carvalho (String Delivery Team) and Gabriel Figueira also put on a show in the first class. João had three opportunities to close out the match, but Figueira held on and managed to win 8-XNUMX. In the other classes and in the women's category, there were also great matches.
Sunday was perhaps even more intense. Paulo Amaral and Ricardo Lustosa began the day with a masterclass on court one. Lustosa started the match better against the favorite, but Paulo entered the match at the right time and closed it out with a 9-8 win. Now he'll face José Roberto Silva in the first-class quarterfinals.
Fabiana Abreu and Vitória Almeida also stood out over the weekend. Entered in the women's category and fourth class, Fabiana and Vitória won all their matches and are in the quarterfinals in both groups. They are in good physical condition and hope to go even further.
In the professional category, Victor Fernandes and Leonardo Bartnik made their debuts. Both won and are now eyeing the grand final, which will be broadcast on FlaTV.
Also among the professionals, Antonio Malla and Felipe Vazsonyi closed the weekend with excitement. Vazsonyi won the first set 7-6, Malla took the second 7-5, and the match went to a ten-point tiebreaker. Despite being very weak physically, Malla used all his experience to win the match and celebrate wildly. The match lasted almost four hours, but the good crowd stayed until the end.
