Mengão continues to strengthen! With national and international prominence, Karol is Flamengo's newest judoka!

Born on January 24, 1996, Karol Gimenes, now 28, is a prominent name in Brazilian judo, competing in the up to 78 kg category. On August 20, 2023, she made history by winning the gold medal at the Grand Prix in Zagreb, Croatia. In the final, Karol shone, defeating Ukrainian Yuliia Kurchenko, securing the top spot on the podium.


Karol has a distinguished resume, replete with important achievements. She is a two-time São Paulo State champion (2022 and 2023), a two-time São Paulo Cup champion (2022 and 2023), a Brazilian regional champion in 2022, and a winner of the Brazil Trophy in 2023. In the same year, she was runner-up in the Brazilian Championship and finished seventh at the Baku Grand Slam. Her international career gained even more prominence with her victory at the Zagreb Grand Prix in 2023 and, more recently, her title at the 2024 National Qualifying IV. Furthermore, Karol was an integral part of the Olympic support team that represented Brazil at Paris 2024.


Now, Karol Gimenes arrives at Mais Querido to reinforce the club's commitment to Olympic sports and the development of great athletes. 


"I'm very happy to end this season at Flamengo. It was a club I always wanted to play for, I wanted to be coached by Rose and her coaching staff, and I'm feeling very welcomed by the atmosphere in Rio de Janeiro," said Karol Gimenes, Mengão's new judoka.
