This weekend, March 1st and 2nd, Group 2 of the Brazilian men's judo team, which includes Leonardo Leite, will compete in the World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic. It will be the judokas' last chance to secure good results for the team that will represent Brazil at the Beijing Olympic Games in August.

According to the criteria established by the Brazilian Judo Confederation, the athlete with the best performance in European tournaments will be the starting athlete in Beijing, prioritizing the most competitive internationally and, therefore, the most qualified to bring Brazil better results at the Olympics. This mixed selection system (national selection and evaluation of international results) has been adopted by the CBJ since 2006 for men and since 2007 for women.

The list of 14 starters (seven men and seven women) for Beijing will be announced on March 21.

In his first test, at the Super World Cup in Hamburg, Germany, Leonardo Leite finished among the top ten, finishing ninth. To secure his place in the starting lineup, Leite, representing the light heavyweight (-100kg) category, will need to perform at his best. Leonardo's direct rival for the starting position is Luciano Correa from Minas Gerais.
