Flamengo's judo team has gained a new addition for the remainder of the season. Judoka Gabrielle Ferreira, 28, is the newest athlete to wear the red and black kimono. A native of Campinho, in Madureira, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, she arrives at Flamengo bringing experience, important titles on the national scene, and a great deal of motivation to continue evolving in her career.
Gabrielle's journey in judo began at a young age, when the sport emerged as an alternative to occupy her time and distance herself from the influences of the streets. "I started judo to get away from the streets a bit, as a way to occupy my time. Over time, judo gained more and more meaning and ended up becoming my profession," recalls the athlete.
Over the years, Gabi has built a solid resume, with significant achievements such as the Brazilian Championship title, the Rio Open Championship, and the Brazil Trophy Championship. For her, each of these victories carries a special meaning. "I have a great affection for all the achievements, because each one represented a different phase of my career, with unique challenges and lessons learned," she emphasizes.
Now at Flamengo, the judoka emphasizes the weight and importance of representing a club with such a strong tradition in Olympic sports. "Wearing the Flamengo kimono represents a great responsibility, but also a huge opportunity to showcase my work, my dedication, and everything I've been building throughout my career," she states.
With a focus on the future, Gabrielle is already setting goals for the next season. "My main objective is to win the major national competitions and stand out even more in international competitions, raising my technical and competitive level," she projects. Possessing a tenacious style, her favorite technique is the Ippon Seoi Nage.
To the Flamengo fans, the athlete leaves a direct and enthusiastic message: “I am very happy to be part of this team. Thank you for all the affection and support. You can be sure that I will honor this jersey on and off the mats. Let's go, Flamengo!”
