The judokas, who are standouts on the team and the Brazilian National Team, have agreed to contract extensions. Giovanna, who competes in the +78kg category, will continue representing the club until 2026. A key figure in the red-and-black judo scene, she has accumulated significant achievements throughout her career, including the gold medal at the 2022 South American Games in Asunción, her three-time Brazilian senior championship, as well as international achievements such as the gold medal at the Pan American Open in Córdoba and the bronze medal at the European Open in Prague.
Marcelo Gomes will be signed to Flamengo until the end of the 2028 Olympic cycle. The judoka, who competes in the under-90kg category, has represented the club since January 2023 and has established himself as one of the leading names in Brazilian judo. Since his arrival, Marcelo has achieved significant results, such as the silver medal at the 2024 Zagreb Grand Prix and the gold medal at the Brazilian Championship.
"I'm so happy, it's almost impossible to describe this feeling. From the pool to the mat, Flamengo has always been a place for stars. Coming here has always been an honor for me, and staying here only reinforces that feeling, in addition to reaffirming my commitment to the Nation. This year, I have a few goals, and the main ones are to continue achieving results at the national, state, and international levels. 2024 was a magical year for me and for the Nation, and, as far as it depends on me, I will continue working so that Flamengo dominates all categories once again," said Marcelo Gomes, a renewed FlaJudô athlete.
