Once again, a lack of incentives and sponsors has threatened Brazilian Breno Viola's participation in Judo For All, a competition for athletes with Down syndrome. Breno, the competition's main figure, with his image featured on the poster advertising the event, will not be able to represent Brazil this year.

Upset with the neglect, Breno and coach Leonardo Mataruna, who always accompanies the judoka in international competitions, had no choice but to give up traveling.

– "Last year we went to Italy with our own resources. Unfortunately, we don't have an institution that recognizes Judo for All. Yes, there is an implementation plan, but only for 2009. It's a constant struggle, without support."

The first judoka with Down syndrome to earn a black belt in Brazil, Breno has a proud history with Judo For All. In 2007, the judoka, who trains at CRFlamengo, won two medals (gold in the -66kg division and bronze in the absolute division) and surprised the many opponents he faced in both categories.

– "I need help to travel with my coach and represent Brazil, as I have done all these years. But, once again, I'm thinking it won't be possible, precisely because of the lack of incentive."
