Marcelo Gomes shines at the Linz Grand Prix and wins the bronze medal
Flamengo judoka reaches the podium for the second time this year and adds important points to the Olympic rankings

This Sunday (09), middleweight Marcelo Gomes (90kg) won the bronze medal in his category and reached the podium for the second time this year. In February, he won silver at the Baku Grand Slam. The competition, held between March 7 and 9, brought together some of the best athletes on the international circuit, and the Brazilian once again showed his talent on the mat.
Marcelo began his career in the competition with a victory over Belgian judoka Jarne Duyck. In the next round, he faced the strong athlete Roy Sivan and won with two waza-aris.
In the quarterfinals, a close duel against Peter Zilka ended in a narrow victory, sending Marcelo to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Marcelo was defeated by the Georgian judoka. In the decisive bronze medal match, he defeated Austrian Thomas Scharfetter with an ippon, securing his place on the podium.
With the victory, he climbed to the podium and brought home the second medal for the red-black judoka on the international circuit. With this medal, Marcelo adds important points to the world rankings, strengthening his path towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
