With a red-and-black majority, Brazil's artistic swimming team advances to the World Cup final
In ninth place, the Brazilian team is in the final of the combined free routine by teams
By Helena Petry - inBrazil's artistic swimming team performed well in the early hours of Thursday (18) and secured its place in the final of the World Aquatics Championships, in Gwangju, South Korea. With the presence of seven red-blacks, the Brazilian team advanced to the final of the combined free routine by teams, which will be held next Saturday.
The country finished the qualifying phase of the competition in ninth place, with 81.6667 points. Gabriela Regly, Giovana Stephan, Jullia Catharino, Laura Miccuci, Lorena Molinos, Maria Eduarda Miccuci and Vitoria Casale represented the Mais Querido in the pool, under the command of Roberta Perillier, Flamengo's coach.
In the technical team competition, held in the early hours of Sunday morning, Brazil finished 15th with 80,619 points. This result left the national team out of the final, as only the top 12 teams qualified. The following day, the mixed duo of the red-and-blacks Giovana Stephan and Renan Alcântara finished seventh in the final. They matched their performance from the 2015 World Cup in Russia.
The artistic swimming teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – Banco Bonsucesso, Furnas, Estácio, LafargeHolcim/Cimento Mauá, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Confederation of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
