A historic event is approaching for Flamengo's synchronized swimming team. From March 2nd to 6th, the sport's Pre-Olympics, a test event for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, will take place at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Park in Rio de Janeiro. Flamengo's team has been invited after achieving its best performance in 2015. The red-and-black representatives will be Camila Ururahy, Gabriella Figueiredo, Daniella Figueiredo, Jéssica Noutel, Maria Eduarda Wolf, Luiza Sagrete, Aline Vieira, and Julia Campos.
The competition, which will feature eight countries in the team competition and 24 in the duet event, will feature Brazil, already qualified as the host country and representative of the Americas. Flamengo will open the Free Routine event on the final day of competition (6), to equalize the judges' panel. The chosen choreography, themed "Warriors," has previously been successful in other competitions such as the 2015 Rio Open, the State Championship, and the Brasileirão in João Pessoa.
Roberta Perillier, the synchronized swimming coach for the red-and-black team, spoke about the group's preparation, which had just a few months to fine-tune its performance. "We received the invitation at the beginning of this year and we are working hard on the girls' physical preparation so they can perform the event with ease," she said.
Beta, in addition to being the club's synchronized swimming coach, is the coordinator of the sport in the Olympic committee and will be working at the event, for this reason, she will be replaced during the presentation by her assistant Marina Valladão.
