Flamengo's artistic swimming teams are preparing for the Figures Tournament, this Saturday (17), at Tijuca Tênis Clube. The teams from the Children's and Youth categories, who are making their competition debut this year, will enter the pools.
Rubro-Negro coach, Marina Valadão defined the athletes' moment.
"Our team is a mix of anxiety and determination because, in addition to being the competition that opens our 2018 season, it will also be the first time they will compete under the new rules of the International Artistic Swimming Federation," said the coach.
Every four years, the international standards for the Figures groups change, resulting in different positions and transitions than the swimmers are used to. Furthermore, athletes aged 11 to 14 will face an additional challenge: along with the championship, a tryout for the Rio Junior team will be held.
Ana Clara de Almeida, Emilly dos Santos, Leonora Jareta, Nicole Shinohara and Thamyris dos Santos participate in the Figures Tournament in the Children's category; and Eduarda Carrilho, Graziely Miranda, Jaddy Milla Passos, Júlia Bouças and Manuella de Menezes compete in the Youth category.
The synchronized swimming teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – Banco Bonsucesso, Furnas, Estácio, LafargeHolcim/Cimento Mauá, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Confederation of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
