Red and black teams enter the pools to face the Brazilian Artistic Swimming Championship
The competition, which brings together the Children's, Youth, Junior and Senior categories, began this Wednesday (05) at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Park.
By Romulo Paranhos - inOne of the most important competitions in national artistic swimming began this Wednesday (5). The Brazilian Championship of the modality is being held at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Park, in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. The tournament, which brings together athletes from the Children's, Youth, Junior and Senior categories, runs until December 9 and takes place at the same time as the National Selection for the formation of the 2019 Brazilian Team.
The Selection will pre-select 18 athletes to form the Brazilian Youth and Junior Teams, in addition, 16 more artistic swimmers will be chosen to join the Brazilian Senior group that will compete in next year's competitions.
"We're very excited, very focused, and we hope to achieve the best possible results, as this championship is our main goal for the year. I'm sure we'll achieve great results and hope to bring this trophy back to Gávea," said Júllia Catharino, a red-and-black athlete on the Junior team.
On the first day of competition, Júllia won the silver medal in the Junior Technical Solo, with 72,4204 points. Another Mais Querido artistic swimmer who stood out early in the competition was Maria Júlia Dos Santos, also winning silver in the Junior Beginner Technical Solo, with 37,0862 points. Flamengo's Maria Clara Lobo excelled in the Junior-Senior Elements event, as part of the Technical Team, with 80,5024 points, while Flamengo's Lorena Molinos finished third with 78,4375 points. In the Mixed Duet category, Flamengo's Renan Alcântara and Giovana Stephan took first place with 76,7965 points.
