Another Flamengo newcomer is standing out on the Brazilian national team. Giovanna Stephan, 18, made her senior solo debut at the Rome Open Championships in Italy last Thursday (May 29).

The red-black, who is the reserve duet for the Beijing Olympic Games, finished in eighth place, with 82.800, beating Pamela Fischer, from Switzerland, who scored 82.700.

Giovanna performed the same choreography that earned her the South American title in March of this year. For the technical solo, the theme used was "Bale Dance," inspired by Indonesian dances.

In the free solo, to the sound of Villa Lobos's "Bachianas No. 5," Giovanna enchanted the audience with "The Flight of the Butterflies." The Rome Open is a preparatory event for Giovanna, who will compete in the Junior World Championships in Russia in July.

The main powers were present at the Roma Cup, held between 29/5 and 1/6, in Italy.
