Fla makes its presence felt in Brazilian gold
Red-and-black girls helped Brazil become synchronized swimming champions at the South American Championships

Flamengo athletes performed well and helped the Brazilian synchronized swimming team dominate the South American Absolute Championships in Belém, held last weekend, winning gold in the combined, team, and solo categories. Flamengo's Giovana Stephan was the standout performer. Besides being the soloist who represented the country in the first-place finish, she also won the "Order of Knights" award, given to the best athlete in each discipline.
"Winning this award was completely unexpected. I was very honored. I dedicated myself a lot to the sport this past year and I think this title was the result of that effort," said Giovana, who performed choreographies under the themes "Saudade de Nápoli" and "Dança Húngara nº 5" (performed by the group Lótus Combo).
The winning team included Gávea swimmers Giovana Stephan, Lorena Molinos, Jessica Noutel, Maria Eduarda Pereira, and twins Daniella and Gabriella Figueiredo. The girls were also accompanied by Flamengo coach Maura Xavier and the club's physical trainer Carlos Alexandre de Assis.
