Flamengo was the only team to win the opening round of the Brazilian Senior Synchronized Swimming Championships this Friday (22.10) at the Botafogo pool in Mourisco-Mar. The red-and-black athletes literally stole the show and shone in the technical routines.

In the first event of the day, the technical duo of Flamengo, Lorena Molinos and Giovanna Stephan, defeated Tijuca's Lara Teixeira and Pamela Nogueira by a narrow margin of points—83,333 to 83,167. Third place also went to Flamengo. Twins Gabriella and Daniella Figueiredo secured bronze with a score of 76,333.

Next, Giovanna Stephan proved why she's the Brazilian national team's starting soloist. With the same determination and charisma as always, the red-and-black player secured first place in the technical solo with a score of 86,667.

With a Las Vegas theme, Flamengo secured victory and took the championship lead. The athletes from Gávea earned the most points, 79,167, surpassing Tijuca (68,833) and the Technological University of Paraná (49,500). The winning team was made up of Lorena Molinos, Maria Eduarda Pereira, Maria Eduarda Cavalcanti, Marcela Pereira, Aline Vieira, Jessica Noutel, Michelle Frota, and Camila Ururahy. The reserves were namesakes Giovanna Stephan and Giovanna Bueno.

"It was a rush to create new choreographies in less than a month. And Flamengo is involved in several competitions. So, I couldn't expect much perfection and synchronization from my girls. We won the duet because both Giovanna and Lorena are very technical. The balance in the competition is evident in the scores," said Maura Xavier, Flamengo's coach.
