Flamengo athlete Lorena Molinos is back on the Brazilian artistic swimming team after a year away from international competition. The swimmer, who competed in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, had decided to retire to focus on dentistry school and dedicate herself exclusively to the club.

After a year's hiatus, Lorena returns to represent the country under the command of Roberta Perillier, her coach on the Mais Querido team and the national team in 2018.

"I found out that this year, the Brazilian team's coach would be Beta, and that the team's training sessions would be in the afternoon, which wouldn't interfere with my college and my schedule for the year. I thought it would be good to help Beta, who said the team is very fresh, and since I'm very experienced, I thought it would be great," says the swimmer.

Lorena has been a Flamengo athlete since she was nine years old and has competed for Mais Querido since she was 13. In 2013, she was elected the best athlete in the sport by the Brazilian Club Committee.

The national team tryouts took place in December of last year and resulted in ten Rubro-Negro athletes being selected. Lorena traveled to São Paulo but was unable to participate in the tryouts due to health issues. Having already been part of the team on several occasions, the swimmer was selected and will be evaluated during the training period.

The synchronized swimming teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – Banco Bonsucesso, Furnas, Estácio, LafargeHolcim/Cimento Mauá, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Confederation of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
