Rubro-Negro's Laura Miccuci leaves this Saturday (05.06) for Spain where, alongside Luísa Borges, she will seek artistic swimming qualification for the Tokyo Olympic Games. The Barcelona Pre-Olympics, which take place between June 10 and 13, is the last opportunity for the Brazilian Olympic duo to stamp their passports to Japan.

There will be 34 countries competing for the nine spots still up for grabs. Thirteen countries are already guaranteed a spot in the Olympics, which will feature 22 duets. Even with the lack of international competitions last year due to the pandemic, Laura is excited to qualify.

"It's going to be a high-level and well-contested competition. It's been a long time since we've competed against countries from around the world, which increases our anxiety, but we're very confident. Our chances of securing this spot are strong, and God willing, I'll be in Tokyo representing Flamengo and Brazil."

The Brazilian duo will perform to the sounds of Sepultura. The idea is to showcase the energy and strength that the Brazilian band's music conveys. Three songs will be used in the performance: Ambush, Attitude, and Desperate Cry.

"When we talk about artistic swimming, most people imagine something calm and delicate... We're going to show that heavy metal also demonstrates energy and strength. We're ready and very excited," she concluded.


The artistic swimming teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – Banco Bonsucesso, Furnas, Estácio, LafargeHolcim/Cimento Mauá, EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Confederation of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
