Flamengo's synchronized swimming athletes dominated the State Championship of the sport, which took place last weekend, on November 12th and 13th, at the Naval School, in Rio de Janeiro. The red-blacks stole the show in the water and went home with 21 gold medals on their chests in 22 finals disputed. This Tuesday (15), they embark for João Pessoa (PB) for the Brazilian competitions.

 

Flamengo is a synchronized swimming powerhouse in Brazil. For many years, athletes frequently called up to the Brazilian National Team have come from the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved) team and defended the green and yellow colors. In the Brazilian and state championships, the Rubro-Negro team is always fighting for the top spot. Since 2013, the Anjo da Guarda Rubro-Negro (Red-Black Guardian Angel) project has actively participated in maintaining the sport in Gávea. The transfer of personal income tax to club-sponsored projects makes all the difference in the development of young synchronized swimming athletes, a fact evident at this stage of the State Championship in Rio. Coming from the national team and participating in the Rio Olympics, Maria Clara Lobo and Lorena Molinos contributed to Flamengo's success in the competitions. Coach Roberta Perillier's team joined their teammates and only failed to win the Senior Technical Team title. In the other finals they participated in, Mengão won gold, including the state title in the Senior Free Team.

 

New to the Gávea pools, the presence of mixed duets in training has been attracting attention. Giovana Stephan and Renan Alcântara, who form the official duet of the Brazilian National Team, also wear black and red. Like Petterson Matheus Justa and Rafaela Catharino, who took first place in the Junior Mixed Duet, Giovana and Renan won the Technical and Senior Mixed Duets.
