Synchronized Swimming has an integrated project with the Sports School
Understand how the evaluation and team formation process works for the sport at Mais Querido

Last Tuesday (25), students from the Sempre Flamengo Sports School in synchronized swimming underwent individual evaluations that qualify them to join the club's pre-teams and teams. The work is coordinated by coach Roberta Perillier, who has been at the edge of the Gávea pools for about two decades, training multiple champions and frequently called up to the Brazilian national team. This week, students from the red-and-black school underwent the demanding scrutiny of Beta, which explains how the process works.
"We've completed one of the work stages that I consider very important: the individual evaluations of our students at the Sports School. The objective of this evaluation is to address both sides of the learning process – the teacher and the student. For the student, it serves as a benchmark for knowledge, technical improvement, and encouragement. For the teacher, it measures the level of learning of their students, reviewing areas that are not being assimilated as well and need to be reinforced. It also allows us to begin planning to identify new athletes for the team and monitor the sport's technical work," he explains.
Beta works directly on the evaluations, working with Thaís Teles, the Sports School's teacher. This process is periodic and is part of the athlete's development, following a common work philosophy, communicating the same "language" from the School, through the youth teams, to the top athletes. In most cases, with success. Nationally recognized for consistently placing key players on Brazilian national teams in a wide range of swimming categories, such as the six Flamengo athletes representing Brazil this week in Colombia at the South American Championships, Beta is responsible for aligning the entire technical process for Mais Querido's synchronized swimming team. Besides Thaís, another person working alongside the multi-champion coach is Marina Valadão, currently the coach for the Infantile and Juvenile teams, and the assistant coach for the Junior and Senior teams. Carlos Alexandre Assis is the CUIDAR physical trainer responsible for training at the Strength Center for the sport.
Still on the subject of evaluations by the Sempre Flamengo Sports School, Roberta Perillier explains that she uses the same concept applied in the Brazilian Confederation, thus reducing the technical gap of an athlete who leaves the club and goes to represent the country when called up.
"The instrument we use is the same one used by Flamengo's top teams, and it's also used in the Brazilian Aquatic Sports Confederation (CBDA) trials. Obviously, this physical and technical assessment instrument is adapted accordingly to the category and level of each athlete and student," she says. She adds:
"This is an opportunity for me to get closer to my teacher, keeping our goals, line of work, and the development of Flamengo's synchronized swimming education aligned," Beta concludes.
The synchronized swimming teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo receive funding from their sponsors – AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, and EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), as well as support from the Brazilian Committee of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources generated by the Pelé Law. The Anjo da Guarda Rubro-Negro (Red-Black Guardian Angel Project), a tax transfer for individuals, benefits all Olympic sports of the Most Beloved Club.
